This quilt was quilted with gold thread to match the gold in the fabrics.

My first quilt

The first quilt I made was called Lady of the Lake (I think).  I remember piecing it on Australia Day in 1988 while I was watching the tall ships  in Sydney Harbour on T.V.

It was machine pieced and Hand Quilted. I still have the quilt but its looking a little ragged now.

After making that quilt I was hooked.

My quilting history

I've always enjoyed making things. I learned to knit before I started school. I loved doing embroidery and sewing before I was a teenager. My mother always sewed. She made our clothes and she made clothes for our dolls. She taught me to sew cloths for my dolls when I was very young. I learned on her old Singer sewing maching.  It wasn't a treadle machine, I'm not that old, but it was controlled by a knee lever, not a foot control. That sewing machine was used for many years.

When I was old enough I bought my own machine. I sewed clothes for myself and then for my children.

When my children were young I didn't have time for sewing anything except clothes, which were made to save money as much as for the enjoyment of sewing.

My mother started patchwork classes at Adult Education. Joy Pratt was her first teacher. Soon enough my sisters, and my auntie started doing patchwork. I loved the quilts but I had 5 young children and I was too busy to do patchwork.

Then my children started school and Rosanne Bond started teaching Patchwork at Huonville. 

I decided that I would like to make one quilt. I didn't want to get hooked on patchwork like my mum and my sisters, I just wanted one quilt.  Famous last words. No-one makes just one quilt.
